Overview
Custom Drugs let you save and reuse your pharmacy's custom medication entries — like compound formulations or specialty products — across assessments. Instead of retyping the same details into the Other Agents tables every time, save a template once, assign it to one or more ailments, and apply it with a click.
Who Can Use This Feature
Custom Drugs is available to pharmacies on the Per Pharmacy subscription plan. All team members with clinical access can create, edit, and apply templates. Templates are shared across your pharmacy.
How to Save a Custom Drug from an Assessment
The fastest way to start building your custom drug library is to save entries as you work through your normal assessments.
- During an assessment, fill out a row in the Other Prescription Agents or Other Non-Prescription Agents table as you normally would
- Hover over the row and click the Save icon on the right
- In the modal that appears:
- Name — pre-filled with the drug name (you can change it)
- Ailments — pre-selected with the current ailment. You can add more ailments here if this medication is used across multiple conditions.
- Description — optionally add notes
- Click Save
The custom drug is now available for future assessments across your pharmacy.
Note: The save icon only appears when hovering over the row
After a few days of saving entries as you go, you'll have a solid custom drug library without any extra effort.
How to Apply a Custom Drug During an Assessment
Once you have custom drugs saved, applying them is quick:
- During an assessment, navigate to the therapy step
- On the Other Prescription Agents or Other Non-Prescription Agents table, click "Apply custom drug" above the table
- A dropdown will show custom drugs matching the current ailment. If you have more than three entries, a search bar appears to help you filter.
- Select a custom drug — the next empty row fills automatically
- Review and adjust any values as needed for this specific patient
How to Manage Custom Drugs
You can view and manage all your custom drugs from My Pharmacy > Custom Drugs.
The Custom Drugs Page
Navigate to My Pharmacy and click the Custom Drugs tab. You'll see two sections:
- Prescription Drugs — templates for prescription medications
- Non-Prescription Drugs — templates for OTC and non-prescription medications
Editing a Custom Drug
- Find the custom drug you want to edit
- Click the Edit (pencil) icon
- Update any fields as needed — name, ailments, description, or prescription details
Click Save
Deleting a Custom Drug
- Click the Delete (trash) icon next to the custom drug
- Confirm the deletion
Note: Deleting a custom drug does not affect any assessments where it was previously applied.
Creating a Custom Drug from the Admin Page
You can also create custom drugs directly from this page without being in an assessment:
- Click the Create button in either the Prescription Drugs or Non-Prescription Drugs section
- Fill in the custom drug details:
- Name (required) — a descriptive name (e.g., "Hydrocortisone 2% Cream Compound")
- Ailments (required) — select one or more ailments. A single template can be assigned to multiple ailments, so you don't need to create duplicates.
- Description (optional) — additional notes
- Drug Name — the medication or compound name
- Sig — dosage and administration instructions
- Quantity — the quantity to dispense
- Refills — number of refills (Prescription Drug templates only)
- Click Save
Tips & Best Practices
- Save as you go. Build your library naturally by saving rows during assessments rather than creating custom drugs from scratch.
- Use descriptive names. Names like "Hydrocortisone 2% in Glaxal Base 100g" are more helpful than just "Hydrocortisone Compound" when you have multiple variations.
- Tag multiple ailments. If you use the same compound for different conditions, assign it to all relevant ailments — no need to create separate custom drugs.
- Review periodically. Visit My Pharmacy > Custom Drugs occasionally to clean up outdated entries or update formulations.
